Costs of Building a Swimming Pool in Houston
There are many benefits of owning a swimming pool; whether for fitness and health; family entertainment, or for cooling down during the hot summer months. This is not a cheap venture, but it will be a worthwhile investment in the end. The cost for such a feat depends on several factors; the soil condition of the area where you plan to install the pool, and the size and shape you desire-just to name a few.
Generally speaking a budget of $25,000 to $50,000 is a reasonable amount to allot to this project. Keep in mind that the price of the pool itself is one thing, but additional features will result in additional costs; decking and landscaping should be factored in, and recreational add-ons such as pool lighting, diving boards, waterslides etc. will definitely drive up the cost.
NB…If you install your pool during the off-season you might be able to save a few bucks as many pool companies and contractors offer discounts when business is slow.
Inground Houston Pools
The three types of in-ground pools are fiberglass, concrete, and vinyl lined, and as you can imagine the rates and features differ. Here’s what you need to know about each option:
Vinyl-lined Pools
These are often referred to as prefabricated pools because they are made from pre-formed liners that fit into the space allotted for the pool. They have a reinforced wall frame made from steel. Vinyl pools have no limitations regarding length with or depth so you customize to fit your specifications. It is the cheapest of the three options; prices range from $18,000 to $25,000.
Fiberglass Pools
These are known for their longevity and require very little maintenance; they are also available in a variety of shapes and sizes. Fiberglass pools are inserted into the hollowed out hole on top of a concrete or sand base, then finished with a gel coating. This is a great option for those who live in cold climates. Prices start at about $18,000 and can go up to $38,000.
Concrete Pools
This is the most durable type on the market and as you might have guessed, it is also the most expensive. Also known as shotcrete or granite, this type of pool is built by shooting concrete from a gun onto reinforced steel walls. Once the concrete cures it is plastered then either tiled or textured according to your preference. Concrete pools are custom built to fit any shape or size that you desire and usually takes a longer time to build than vinyl or fiberglass. Price range for this option is $30,000 to $50,000.
Above Ground Houston Pools
These are drastically cheaper than in-ground pools and are often oval or round; they are available in small medium and large sizes. Prices start at about $1500 and can go up to $5,000. The higher priced options are of better quality and therefore more durable. If you don’t plan to use your pool year round, then this is the perfect choice for those hot summer months, and there are some great selections on the market that will suit your style, taste and budget.
